School Vision

‘They are like trees growing near a stream and sending out roots to the water. They are not afraid when hot weather comes, because their leaves stay green; they have no worries when there is no rain; they keep on bearing fruit.’

Jeremiah 17:8

  • We aim to create the best conditions for all children to flourish, through providing solid roots so they can grow academically, socially, spiritually, morally and culturally.
  • We aim to give children the resilience and skills to develop ‘even when the hot weather comes’ so that they ‘keep on bearing fruit.’

What does ‘bearing fruit’ look like in the Early Years Foundation Stage?

  • Children foster curiosity to seek out more knowledge and wisdom
  • Children have patience and perseverance to keep on trying and accomplish what they set out to achieve
  • Children have independence and confidence to thrive and fulfil their own potential
  • Children form good relationships with others and develop roles and responsibilities in order to become responsible citizen

Learning Through Play

In our EYFS setting we encourage opportunities for children to discover the world around them and try to find out how things work. Schematic play provides opportunities to repeat and practise different actions. This helps their brain development and learning as they grow and develop. For example, actions of up and down, going from side to side, and rotating will support children when they begin to make marks, draw and eventually write.

Schemas are described as patterns of repeated behaviour which allow children to explore and express developing ideas and thoughts through their play and exploration. The repetitive actions of schematic play allow children to construct meaning in what they are doing. Young children learn best through opportunities to engage in active learning through hands on experiences. These opportunities allow children to problem solve, question, predict, imagine, speculate and develop independent choices as they make decisions in an area they are familiar with.
